Offshore Oil Rig Jobs

I worked offshore shortly after I came out of high school. For some bizarre reason, and bad advice to which I listened, I blew off all my scholarships and decided to hit the road. I would like to be able to type, “Whatever. I am over it,” but it would be a lie.

I worked my way across the country, sleeping on concrete picnic tables in order to save money. One of my jobs was working at an Autozone in Garden Grove, California. Some months later I wound up in Cutoff, Louisiana working for South Lafourche Labor Crews, a company that supplied roustabouts to oil companies. That job sucked outrageously mainly because Mitch was not a good employer and so I moved on, and back to college (on my dime.) I later heard Mitch’s company had been raided for all kinds of illegal activities sending him to prison, so my sense of time to go turned out to be very accurate.

After 14 years of marriage, a semi-successful insurance career and a blazingly successful Internet Service Provider start up which was robbed by my partners and subsequently was a major cause of divorce, I began looking at going back offshore. This was in 1998.

Pondering over how long it took to get my job, I honestly don’t have a sense of how many months it took me to land the job but I do remember that it was not a short process. Once I landed the job, I found myself living in a bunkhouse going through classes and training and depressed as hell because, boy, how the mighty had fallen. My business was gone and here I was, working for an hourly wage again. Thank goodness they started training us on how to exit a helicopter that had made a water landing and had turned upside down in the water. Nothing and I mean nothing will get your mind off feeling sorry for yourself better than keeping your focus on how to get out of a seat you’re held in by a six point seatbelt while you are submerged and upside down.

Once I got into the routine of working offshore I realized a couple of things. First, as long as I was on the job and on the clock, the clock was working in my favor. If I were home watching television the clock was working against me. It was an epiphany that took me reaching my late 30s, going through a robbery and a divorce to understand. Second, coming home after a month long stint to a fat bank account made me want to hold to the rod longer even when I was offshore. I got to where I was uncomfortable if I was not on the ship, barge, or platform working. Besides, it is agreeable work. Some of us started at 6AM and worked until 6PM, some from 6PM until 6AM. Some of use from 5 to 5, same deal.

For the single guy, it was a dream job. I once stayed nearly 90 days straight. That homecoming only made it worse for my hankering to be back on the ship because I could see myself getting ahead. Others worked the traditional two weeks on and two weeks off. Many had saved their money and used the oil field job to pay their bills and ran things like a contracting or backhoe business to pay for toys and fund their retirement on their off weeks. I am sure you understand when I say it took me a little while before thinking of being in business for myself again. I worked in the oil fields and I recovered from the robbery and the divorce, one day at a time.

I wish I had had these people’s help when I started looking. I can guarantee that should I ever look to returning to the oil fields and its honest, well paying work, these people will lead the way.

If you think working in the oil fields might be for you, and I highly recommend it as a place to work, try these folks on for size.

Best Regards,

Tim Singleton

“Mr. Singleton, we are interested in working with a few key individuals because our number one goal today is to identify a few key individuals with whom we can work and whose success story we can use in the future.”

Sounds good, right? Hell, more than that, it sounds fair.

“So what your saying is all you want is for me to work with your coaches to build a successful business and you get to use my success story in marketing your system, correct?”

“ Absolutely. All we want is your best efforts and willingness to be teachable and accountable.”

Teachable and accountable from my network marketing days I have come to realize means you are willing to get on their book and tape list which in some cases accounts for large percentages of their incomes, sometimes the majority of their incomes. The miracle butt cream they are pushing or the $6 tube of magic root toothpaste is apparently for the selling to others and pays limited percentages until you get to where you are moving a buttload of books and tapes.

Anyways. I am over it.

One such system swore to me that there was no charge, then about three quarters of the way through the conversation he started talking about a grant to cover the cost of the program. I asked why did I need a grant if all they wanted was my best efforts. I have to be frank in that I have looked at so many programs that this guy’s discomfort was humorous to me because he was so busted.

The point is they wanted to teach me to do a drop ship program using eBay and my own websites and all for the low price of $1,200.00. Well, DOBA charges a monthly fee and these folks had a onetime fee of $1,200.00. I negotiated that down to $300.00 mainly by saying that was what I was willing to pay or I was walking. They came back with $400.00 and I bit…in two equal payments of $200.00, of course, and with the provision that the first con man who called me not get paid because he lied when he said there was no charge.

If their service sucks in 30 days I will cancel and if they want to come after me in small claims, so be it, I will hammer them. I am hopeful that they can actually keep their word. The fellow I am working with seems to be an okay fellow. I am keeping the name of the company confidential for now. If I have not earned my $200 back in 30 days, or if I have, I will report on it.

There are some folks out there who are making a LOT of money. Sadly, I suspect a ton of it is done by overpromising, underdelivering, and having the best disclaimer and terms of agreement out there that money can by. Selling something for $39.95 has got to be the best gig in town because it is cheap enough that lots of folks will take a chance and too small for anybody to sue over when it does not perform up to snuff. Has ANYBODY bought a system for $39.95 that even earned them their money back? A few, it is true, very few.

All of which sucks and screws up the market when you really want to sell good products which are of equal value to the price you charge.

This company claims it will teach me how to build drop shipping relationships with people in that business and show me how to profitably use eBay and how to use eBay to drive people to my own website.

Well, we will see. After all, I have spent more than $400 on a date, on a bad date. Hopefully, they can actually come through. I will consider the program a success if it earns me in a month what I paid for it. Working at home clearly has to be built in sections and pieces, just like the house you want to work out of.

You know, you find a product that is exciting because it clearly fills a need, it has a proven track record of success as a revenue stream, and you genuinely feel it will be a benefit to your client at least equal to the purchase price. You decide on a domain name to post your landing page, you set up your autoresponder, and you begin customizing the landing pages and the software or product as instructed.

Only…those instructions tell you to customize it to read in the first person when you did not write ANY of it.

All of a sudden you are moving slow and staring off into space a bit. Disclaimers being what they are, you still know you did not write the thing. The experiences cited are not yours even though the work is written in the first person. Now, I know prose written in the first person is more interesting to read. “The author of this work found himself to be excited” just does not read as well as “Dude, I was fired UP!”

So, to return to the point of this article, a question I have not answered yet. Is it legal, moral and ethical to buy the rights to a work (yes, clearly) and represent that you are the author (no way) even with the original author’s explicit permission because it was his or her intent that you do so? Here, my mental gears grind because it is not plagiarism as I conceive the concept because plagiarism to me implies theft which is not the case here.

I do want to market the products but I will not unless I can come up with a way to explicitly inform the potential buyer of the fact that I am selling it under Private Lable Resell rights without compromising the sales copy. If the issue of it being a product sold under license from another makes the product somehow less beneficial to the purchaser then I have wasted a hell of a lot of time.

Sustanainable development is part and parcel connected with the monstrous aims of the Georgia Guidestones, the control freaks in the UN who wish to limit the human population to 500 million worldwide, and those NGOs who would indoctrinate your kids by bypassing the Federal and State governments and working directly with the local municipality and county governments via local school and government ‘sustainable development’ initiatives.

Make no mistake. Sustainable development is not about saving the environment. It is about saving the environment for the uber rich while relegating you and me to the confines of so-called ‘human zones’ as if we are livestock to be herded and corralled into fenced pasteurs not of our making.

It is infuriating to look into the face of some menapausal local elected council woman while she self-righteously proclaims that SHE is going to single handedly save the earth, or some soon to be victim of Alzheimer’s going on about how he needs to regulate how many times a farmer can subdivide his own property.

Sustainable development is at once an attack on both Christianity and Capitalism, on freedom and freewill, on individuality and independence and on how we live.

Check out Freedom Advocates for more information on this heinous attack against our lives.

Suffering from insomnia and apnea has left me for months barely able to stay awake at work and only wanting to crash when I got home. I did not want to believe I had apnea, or that if I did, it was not so bad, or if it was so bad, losing weight would take care of the problem.

Trouble is, I was falling dead ass asleep at work in my desk in the middle of conversations with people no matter how hard I tried to keep from doing so. Provigil and ephedrine helped but the assholes at Blue Cross/Blue Shield did not want to pay for them without a sleep study. I put it off and put if off because I KNEW I could not sleep with something on my face all night and besides, I did not want my girl Maryjane to see me sleeping with it looking like a car accident victim in a coma.

Well, it only got worse, so I scheduled the sleep study. They monitored me for a few hours and then came in and helped me into a CPAP mask. Imagine my surprise when I slept on my BACK…have never been able to do that as an adult, and I slept for several hours straight…another minor miracle for Tim’s sleep.

Anyways, I will be on a CPAP machine now. It isn’t sexy, but it isn’t just my weight, either. Choking in your sleep when your throat tissues collapse and your tongue falls to the back of your mouth cause a tremendous load on your heart and this appears to the the primary cause of high blood pressure and stroke later in life. Fixing it now will result in a longer life. Now, instead of merely making it to 300, I may make it to 350 years of age before I check out!

…and Maryjane, of course, only said, “Thanks be to God” when she found out I was going on the machine. My political commentary, aka my snoring,  concerned her.
